Declaring my Word for 2017: Wellness

It’s that time of the year again– time to declare your word of the year! I just declared mine and this year it is Wellness.  I hope you’ll do it too, if you haven’t. It’s fun, trust me.  I’ve been doing this publicly for the past few years and I love it. It keeps me accountable and is a great guide to have when the waters get murky later in the year. Whenever I have a question about a tough or difficult decision and I need clarity, I come back to my word of the year. It has helped me so far.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about with the “word of the year”, think of it as your theme or guiding light for the year ahead. Now some are into resolutions at this time of the year, I’m more into goals and setting intentions. I think this is a really fun way to set your intention for how you want your year to go.

For me, one year I chose the word intentional because I wanted to be more deliberate with my choices. I wanted to say YES to more things that worked for my family and say NO to things that didn’t and with ease. Last year, I chose Focus because I have a busy brain and need to stay on task and I needed a reminder to focus on what matters to me and the task at hand. And this year, I chose, Wellness. I want to pursue wellness in all facets of my life and my family. I want physical, mental, financial, spiritual, social, and family wellness (ie- fun) etc. You get the point, right? I’ve struggled with my physical health since last August (yes, over a year) and I really don’t want to quit until I get my body working best for me and knowing that I have done everything that I can to help it get back to where my “new normal” is going to be. But I didn’t want to just focus on physical wellness, I wanted wellness in all areas! I want to be alive in all areas of my life (just like the picture above illustrates)!  I just love that word and I debated over the word wellness or health (you’ll have to listen to the podcast for more on that decision).

If you don’t care to read and would rather tune in and learn more, please listen in to my podcast which is called, Be Bold, Be Brave, Be YOU! I did a podcast on this topic. You can tell by the sound of my voice why I needed to chose wellness, too! To listen to that podcast, https://www.colleenmook.com/colleen-mook-word-of-the-year-episode-43/
