It’s that time of year to declare my word of the year for 2019. This year I declare that my word is RENEW. Some of the words I have chosen in the past have been: Wellness, Intentional, Focus and YES! I have found that having a word for the year helps me when I am confused and unsure of what direction to go in. It is a guiding principle and I find myself coming back to it often throughout the year.

Definition of Renew and Why I Chose this Word

This word spoke to me especially when I read this definition of Renew from Oxford Dictionary, “Give Fresh Life or Strength To”.   It also means “to resume an activity after an interruption”.  Another definition is “to re-establish”. I can use some fresh life in all aspects of my life and can always use renewed strength.  There are several things that I have done in the past that I would like to bring new life to them such as blogging (woohoo, I did this one).  I would also like to renew my beloved podcast, Be Bold, Be Brave, Be YOU that I let go as other things took my attention.  I’d like to re-establish so many of my practices that I have done in the past that worked for me but somehow got lost and became more sporadic.  I always do way better when I have a morning ritual and routine. I am better when I practice meditation and mindfulness daily. I am better when I exercise regularly and watch what I eat and drink. I’d like to re-establish some relationships and activities. I want to renew and breathe new life into my business and my environment. I don’t feel like I need to go on creating and finding more new stuff. I am quite content with all I have, I would just like to focus more time on all the things I have already.I want to renew my physical environments, my relationships, my health, my spiritual well being, my work, my goals and my passions.  Everyday is a new day and the sunrise is a perfect example that each day we can begin again and start over. One of my favorite things to do is watch the sunrise as it renews my spirit.

Here’s what I’ve Renewed Already in 2019

In December after a chaotic few months, I knew I needed to re-charge myself so I enrolled in a new meditation course. I’ve meditated for years off and on and on but I knew I needed more structure to get me re-aligned. It worked and I started manifesting and visualizing what I wanted. One of the things that I’ve been meaning to do for years is decorate my office at Baby Be Hip. When we moved here nine years ago, it was an old machine shop with ugly brown walls. We put green paint on the walls and thought it looked stellar (it’s all relative, right?).  It’s funny how life goes on and you don’t even notice some things anymore. Well, I visualized re-doing my office in my meditation. My poor husband, Brad, is always the one that is by my side when I get an idea in my head. I have no patience so it was going to be a 72 hour job and on a budget to be completed on January 1. I just wanted to renew it and bring new life into my office which hopefully will give me renewed energy to focus on my business. My goal was to go from drab to fab and I think we did it. Still more to do, of course, but I’m pretty proud of how we renewed my work environment.

I believe it is always important that we celebrate our accomplishments and share them with others. Be proud of the hard work and progress you’ve made. It’s a little embarrassing sharing the before picture but if I didn’t have that, I wouldn’t be sharing the whole story.

What Word Will You Pick for 2019?

It’s never too late to pick a word. Try it, you’ll like it. Not sure where to start, that’s ok, it’s easy. Brainstorm ideas, take a walk in nature, sit quietly with yourself and see what comes up, read some of my other blogs on picking a word of the year. If you are a podcast junkie like me, you can listen to this podcast I did in the past on picking a word of the year.

Once you declare your word of the year, be sure that you tell others about your word of the year. There really is power in sharing your intentions with others. Even just posting it here in the comments is powerful. You are putting it out there in the universe and I bet you will hold yourself a little more accountable. You can also ask someone to hold you accountable so when you are going off course, they will gently remind you of your word or intention.  For example, last night, I told my husband that I was getting up at 5am and to make sure I follow through. Guess what, I did it. When I tell myself I am going to get up, I am not always true to my word but if I tell someone else, I am pretty good about showing up.

Here’s to a great 2019 to all of you! Make it a great year– you deserve it! Hang in there on the roller coaster ride of life and enjoy it as we only have one life to live!

Share your word below! I’d love to hear from you.
